Salisbury Cathedral - Magna Carta & Stonehenge

Salisbury Cathedral and the Magna Carta: A Must-Visit Destination for History Enthusiasts

Salisbury Cathedral is a magnificent medieval church located in the city of Salisbury, England. The cathedral was built in the 13th century and is considered one of the finest examples of early English Gothic architecture. It is also famous for its towering spire, which is the tallest in the United Kingdom, reaching a height of 404 feet.

The cathedral was constructed over a period of nearly 40 years, from 1220 to 1258. The master mason responsible for the design and construction of the cathedral was Elias of Dereham. The cathedral was built using locally quarried limestone, which gives it a beautiful golden hue.

One of the most striking features of Salisbury Cathedral is its spire. It was added to the cathedral in the 14th century and is the tallest spire in the UK.
Another notable feature of Salisbury Cathedral is its cloisters. The cloisters are a covered walkway that surrounds a quadrangle and are located on the north side of the cathedral. They were built in the 14th century and are considered one of the most beautiful examples of medieval cloisters in England.

Inside the cathedral, visitors can admire its impressive nave, which is 80 feet high and 240 feet long. The nave is flanked by two rows of columns, which give it a majestic appearance. The cathedral also has a number of beautiful stained glass windows, including the famous "Doom Window," which depicts the Last Judgment.

Salisbury Cathedral is not only a beautiful work of architecture, but it also has a rich history. The cathedral is home to one of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta, which is a document that established the principle that everyone, including the king, is subject to the law. The cathedral also has a number of tombs and monuments, including the tomb of William Longespée, an illegitimate son of King Henry II.

Salisbury Cathedral is a magnificent example of medieval architecture and is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, or art. It is a true marvel of human ingenuity and is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the medieval builders who created it.

"Highly recommended,
professional and friendly"

My teenage daughter and I had a 9-hour layover at Heathrow and wanted to visit Stonehenge.
We hired Andrew Tapaszto (at +447411 412088) and had a terrific day. He picked us up at the airport, managed our luggage for the day. Andrew was pleasant, knowledgeable, and a safe driver. He managed our time effectively between Stonehenge and a quick stop in Windsor. I'd highly recommend him.

"Just what we needed"

Andrew was prompt, friendly and so very helpful. He gave us exactly the itinerary we requested- which was to be picked up at Heathrow after our overnight flight from the US, taken to Windsor, and then delivered to our hotel in London. Highly recommend

"On time, courteous and accomodating"

I'm still in London while writing this review. We went to Stonehenge and Salisbury on Tuesday and Hampton Court and Windsor Castle today. Andrew was on time, very courteous and accommodating. Price is very fair for a private day tour.

"Wonderful Time with Andrew"

We booked Andrew for two days. We were a party of four adults. First day was trip to Stratford-upon-Avon with return to Windsor. He delighted us with stories of history, local fun and his life as we made our way there. He helped us find the starting part of our time in Stratford-upon-Avon then picked us up at our last stop when we were ready to head back. The next day we went to Stonehenge then on to Bath to our next hotel. He prepared us by making sure we had pre-booked tickets before our trip and explained what we would find there. As well he showed us interesting spots along the way including one stop for beautiful photos as we entered Bath. You’ll be lucky to have Andrew as a part of your visit!

"London to Windsor to Heathrow"

Andrew is fantastic!
Trust him!!!
We had to be out of our apartment for 9 am in central London but did not have a flight until 4 pm. Andrew was the perfect solution to our situation.
I found him on line via the forum... and I am so glad that I did.
Not only did he make our day easy but he also was delightful. We were picked up on time and brought to Windsor. Our luggage stayed with Andrew security in the car while we enjoyed the are.
Five star rating.
Thank you Andrew.
